“The deepest thing I know is that I am living and dying at once, and my conviction is to report that dialogue.”
— Stanley Kunitz
Hey there, hello. I am Jodi and welcome to my journal, where I keep track of my days.
I live in Sauk City (which is actually a village), about eight blocks from the Wisconsin River, whose banks my family has been walking for five generations. I was born on a cold winter night, and it seems that there is little time between then and now. I grew up searching creek and river banks, traversing prairies, and trekking through the woods. I lived in the country, checked trap lines, cleaned venison, and ate squirrel. My history, the story of my family, is very important to me. This past continues to shape who I am yet today.
I seek beauty in the mundane. It isn’t difficult to find.
Never settling on one form of expression, I like to take photographs and videos; I like to write poetry and vignettes; I enjoy recording ambient sounds; I doodle and I decorate and I poke wool with barbed needles until it forms a mammal, bird, fish, or figure; I adore crocheting and I’ve just learned to embroider.
One of my greatest joys has been working on ‘unmasked‘ with my daughter, Silas.
I am a lifelong scavenger of all things vintage. (Thanks for that, Mum!)
I have been blogging for nearly a decade, mostly with the moniker soNOTcool. [This is where I used to have a little list of some publications that have shared my work or websites where I contribute, but this section is in serious need of updates and I hope to do that soon.]
I love taking part in new projects and sharing my work. And, I really really like to collaborate with other artists or write articles for sweet publications. If you wish to commission something, want to work together, or would just like to say hello, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would enjoy hearing from you.
