day in the life: november

I somehow forgot to do a day in the life for October. Oh, well.

Today, I did ‘day in the life: november morning’. Of note: Kin is still completely obsessed with watching reflections. From this spot, she can see the living room and is looking for our other pets to appear, which confounds her. Sometimes this causes her to attack. The other day, I happened to glance at a mirror and there was her reflection watching me. She is my little guard kitty. She even growls at the meter man.

a day in the life: september

Yesterday, I woke up determined to adhere to my new and much-better-for-my-life-overall schedule. The most important thing is that I don’t go into the office/studio until a certain time. I was in the bad habit of eating breakfast at my desk, and then my morning would begin to overlap into other parts of my day with no clear separation, which is very necessary for me and my sanity.

I have always been one of those people that is ready to eat first thing in the morning, a small meal and one or two cups of coffee. Then, I discovered chilled vanilla lattes. They trick me into thinking that I’ve eaten and sort of take away my appetite. This is unacceptable, not eating breakfast. Unfortunately, despite my fine efforts yesterday, I still didn’t eat until 11:00 am, when I made scrambled eggs for myself and Silas, who I had just awoke. She lives a second-shift lifestyle by choice, and I’m good with that. It gives me physical room to think during my lone mornings, which I very much need.

On my bike ride, I found a mourning dove about two blocks from my house with a broken tail and lame right leg. I can’t seem to find anyone that will take it in for rehab, so I guess that I’ll be attempting to do it myself although I don’t know if he is well enough to heal. Poor baby. He’s now living in a bushel basket on my front porch. Oh, that little sweetheart.

(I’m following various advice that I’ve found online as far as a calm and quiet atmosphere, water, food, and some bandaging. I sure could use an avian Florence Nightingale right about now. And a pigeon Valium.)

I spent about an hour downstairs during lunch, not just eating but also doing a few chores, like folding laundry and taking the dog outside for a bit. I then went back to work, but accomplished very little in the studio. I took fika at my desk. As seen in the slideshow, Kin is never far away, often sleeping in her old crocheted bed next to my desk chair.

At a bit before six, I headed downstairs to make myself some supper. My husband is out of town, otherwise I would have begun to prep much sooner, and I’d have made something fresh. Instead, I had leftover grilled fish (from tacos) with avocado and lime. I sat alone at the dining table while I ate, finishing off the KenKen puzzles in the newspaper. I felt like a sad sack.

I went for another bike ride and the highlight was seeing a couple of boys riding around on bicycles while sporting huge boxes. When I got home, I turned off the main computer and closed up the office/studio for the night. (I’m almost never online in the evening.)

Usually, I aim to be in bed by 10 pm, but Stranger than Fiction. That movie is such a gem. So, I stayed up until almost 11, watching that and reading People are Unappealing, while sipping hot apple cider.

day in the life

I had this idea yesterday morning that maybe I’d record a monthly “day in the life” via photos. Then, I lived my day and snapped it, and it looks pretty boring, especially since yesterday was closet-cleaning day.

But, it is the day that I chose to document, so I made the photo mosaics. I’ll write notes at the end so as to not forget what I was doing.

I hope to do this again next month, but maybe I’ll try a slideshow instead of Schminstagram mosaics.

mosaic one

1] I wanted a self-portrait with my dog, but she wasn’t interested. 2] Some of my garden produce on the counter while making breakfast. 3] Kin, after I come in from the garden with an onion for my breakfast. 4] Quick morning bike ride.

mosaic two

1] Front porch. 2] Chocolate sweet peppers. 3] Another crop of turnips very soon. 4] The last tomato variety to ripen, Hungarian Heart.

mosaic three

1] Asparagus bed. 2] Lazy Susans being lazy. 3] Rhubarb and asparagus. 4] Sweet peas still flowering, thank goodness.

mosaic four

1] Iced coffee in the office/studio. 2] Inventory. 3] Another nap, but not for me. 4] Salmon patty with an Italian Heirloom.

mosaic five

1] Much of my closet, on our bed. 2] After the first culling. 3] Only just getting started, but noticing a color, or lack thereof, trend in my cold-weather clothes. 4] And more variety in the warm weather stuff. (This trend definitely continued as I filled the racks.)

mosaic five

1] Lazy bum one. 2] Lazy bum two. 3] A corner. 4] This is going to be my future tool shed. It is a reclaimed shipping container that my man brought home.

mosaic seven

1] One more walk through the garden after supper. 2] Ditto. 3] A quick bike ride. 4] A little embroidery before bed.
