Mary Jane and Garland “Bud” Anderson on their wedding day.

Is Garland the coolest name or what?!

wooden fruit + beer crates

wooden fruit + beer crates

At a tag sale eight years ago, I spotted five wooden crates and nabbed them all immediately. They were a buck a piece. Since then, they have traveled all over the house, being used as bookshelves, to hold craft supplies, and as a pedestal for the snake.

It seems that my man is always in need of a place to unload his stuff, and I’ve not been entirely happy with any of my previous attempts to accommodate that, so yesterday I decided to create a landing strip for him to empty his pockets and toss his boots. I added one of my sets of refrigerator trays to put his change and the odd array of items that he seems to collect.

Last month, I posted a photo of a sofa doily that, at first, I thought had been crocheted. Then, I suspected that it was tatted since I found similar doilies online that can be verified as tatting. Adding to the mystery, I now realize that this pillow case has the same weaving as the more-solid portions of the sofa doily.

What is this craft about which I am clueless?

(For investigation purposes, there is a huge copy of the image HERE.)

I have considered fixing the frame of this old picture, which hung in the hallway of my childhood home but, frankly, I like it this way.

I have a set of four champagne flutes, but I’ve been hoping to score some vintage champagne glasses for quite some time.

While painting today, I found these in my own dining room cabinet.

what is "things that hold", alex.

This month, I began a whole-house, repainting and restyling project. It quickly became apparent just how important all the little vintage containers that I have are to attractive organization. I have shifted around dozens of catch-alls already, and I always have a pile of them waiting to be filled. These are my present empty-nesters.

That heart-shaped sewing box? It is another Valentine’s Day gift, which was filled with chocolates, that my grandpa bought for grandmum, much like the other one that I shared.

mirror from my childhood home

mirror from my childhood home

When I was 12, my mom had a new kitchen put in the house. For some reason, this mirror was salvaged from over the sink, where I stood looking at it many evenings while doing dishes. The house was sold about 17 years ago. It helps to make my house a home.

This mirror has appeared in my photos again and again and again and again.

westclox dialite alarm clock

This is the second Westclox time piece to sneak into this photo project. I have a weakness for these old boys and, today, I was literally running out of time to snap a picture so I pulled this handsome man into the scene.

japanese geisha doll in glass

japanese geisha doll in glass

I am fond of this sweet, little geisha, but I want nothing more than to get inside and clean her windows. I suspect that the glass was dusty before it was sealed.

It distracts me to no end.

embroidered silk pillow cover

embroidered silk pillow cover

Although there is one in the photograph, I have two of these pillow covers. The other doesn’t have a pillow in it.

I looked inside this one and it is filled with a Barbie pillow that my daughter had when she was three years’ old. (She was done with Barbies by four.)
